8.811 Fall 03: Project Case Study

The slides of my Wed Nov 5 talk can be found here. This is intended to be a general example of the kind of thing you should do for your project, although this one is a bit longer than you need to do (you should aim for a one hour talk); also mine is rather weighted towards introductory material, for the simple reason that I already had a talk prepared (and it's pedagogically useful material).

Much of the material for this proposal for an off-axis detector comes from the NuMi off-axis collaboration proposal. (The detailed information in it about an off-axis detector is not be taken too seriously... it's just an example of the kind of thing you might want to have). If this were your project, some examples of studies you could include as your "personal" component: a cut study using pre-generated ntuples available from the off-axis collaboration, or some calculations of cosmic ray contamination as a function of overburden.
